your niche is boring me to death

Hey Reader,

How many times have you met someone new and cringed when they immediately ask what you do for work? Like damn... can we get to know each other first?

I was on a coaching call recently when a client asked:

"Do I need to pick one thing and stick to it?"

He was referring to his content strategy and I’ve wrestled with that question myself. But here’s the mindset shift that changed everything for me:

Your personal brand is your opportunity to share multiple interests. How many popular paintings only have one color?

So why would you box yourself in?

Here’s where the magic happens...

Let's take a look at a marketing funnel.

Top of Funnel (TOF)Awareness. Show your personality and interests. This is how you get noticed, not paid.

My own TOF content looks like moments with friends, fitness, travel, and music festivals. Really, I just create whatever excites me here. The goal is to showcase who I am underneath.

Middle of Funnel (MOF)Consideration. Think valuable, educational content connected to your offer. It's like dating before you commit, kind of like we're doing right now ;)

My own MOF content looks like videos on creative process, personal branding, content strategy, business, etc. But notice how I hardly post this content back-to-back on Instagram.

Bottom of Funnel (BOF)Conversion. Invite your warm audience to take action – buy, book, or join. These work best in DMs, stories, or email because by that point they understand who you are, they like you, and they're open to working with you.

Notice how TOF is the widest part of the funnel – because this is where you capture attention. MOF + BOF content are not likely to "get numbers" and that's okay... they're not for your entire audience. Not yet, at least.

We work with people we like.

We like people we relate to.

We relate to people who show us their full selves.

This is the secret to building a magnetic personal brand that attracts your dream clients.

Now it's your turn

What's one new style of content you're implementing next week?

Good luck,

Ashton

P.S. Stuck on what to do next in your brand, content, or business? Let’s fix that.

P.P.S. Your creative HQ, all in one place, so you can capture, organize, and execute more without the overthinking or burnout.

Hey Reader, “Embarrassment is an under-explored emotion. Go out there and make a fool of yourself. Feel that feeling of cringe, and do it anyway.” I heard this scrolling on TikTok the other day, and gahhh damn it smacked me silly. “Embarrassment is an under-explored emotion.” That line alone hits different. How often have we scared our true selves away just to avoid feeling embarrassed? Truth is, embarrassment isn’t as bad as we make it. What someone thinks of you is a reflection of them, not...

Hey Reader, “The quality of your life is based on the quality of your relationships.” That line hit me fkn hard this week. One of our Confidence on Camera challenge members, Thomas, mentioned it in his day 2 video submission, and it took me straight back to early college when social anxiety ran my life. Overthinking every word. Wondering how I looked. Needing shots of fireball just to calm the nerves. It may have helped in the moment (if I didn't black out), but it definitely prevented me...

Hey Reader, Talking to a camera can feel awkward as hell. What do I say? How do I look? What will people think about me? These thoughts can mess with your flow and make you lose your authenticity. At least that was my biggest challenge when I started on YouTube, overthinking everything instead of just showing up. But if you’ve got something to say, a brand or business to build, and you’re done helping someone else chase their dream… this is a problem worth overcoming. Opportunities show up...
